Community Events Committee

Quarterly Meetings

The Community Events Committee advises and actively participates in coordinating and promoting community events that showcase the Town of Westlock.  

Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) Advisory Committee

Meetings at key project milestones

The Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) Advisory Committee provides advice, local knowledge, and community perspectives to help inform the preparation of the Town's Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan. Committee members review project information, identify opportunities and challenges, provide feedback on public engagement activities, and review draft concepts and recommendations.

Meeting Frequency:

  • Meets at key milestones throughout the DARP project

Responsibilities:

  • Review background information and project materials
  • Identify downtown opportunities, challenges, and priorities
  • Provide feedback on public participation activities and materials
  • Review draft concepts, policy directions, and draft plan content
  • Support awareness of public participation opportunities
  • Provide advisory recommendations for consideration during preparation of the DARP

Member Requirements:

  • Must be a resident, business owner, or property owner within the Town of Westlock
  • Members serve in an advisory capacity only

FCSS Advisory Board

Approximately 9 meetings/year

The Board advises on local needs, program priorities, and community initiatives under the provincial FCSS framework. Its members include elected officials and residents who work together to support a connected, caring, and resilient region. 

Intermunicipal Library Board

The Westlock Intermunicipal Library provides input on the library's operations.

Municipal Planning Commission Board (MPC)

Meetings 3rd Thursday monthly (as required)

Your involvement with this board has a tangible impact on the future development of the Town of Westlock. The purpose of the Municipal Planning Commission Board is to review proposed development permits and subdivision applications. 

Meeting Frequency:

  • Meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month (as required)
  • Meetings take between 30 minutes and 1 hour

Responsibilities:

  • The MPC decides on all development permits involving a variance over 10% or a Discretionary Use
  • The MPC decides on all subdivision applications
  • MPC members serve an initial 4-year term, with the option to be reappointed by Council

Member Requirements:

  • No experience is required; training is provided
  • Members of the MPC must be a resident of the Town of Westlock
  • Members cannot be a Town employee or a member of the Town's SDAB

Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB)

Meetings as required

Members of the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board hear appeals of development permits and applications.  Appeals could involve an adjacent landowner appealing an approved development, an applicant appealing a condition of their development permit approval, or an applicant appealing a refusal of a development permit application. 

Meeting Frequency:

  • Meets as required

Responsibilities:

  • The SDAB hears appeals on development permit decisions
  • The SDAB is responsible for conducting impartial, fair, and timely hearings
  • SDAB members serve an initial 4-year term, with the option to be reappointed by Council

Member Requirements:

  • No experience is required; training is provided
  • Members of the SDAB must be a resident of the Town of Westlock or Westlock County
  • Members cannot be a Town employee or a member of the Town's MPC
