When local business owner, Chanel Mortensen, was asked about her goals for her company, her warm-hearted response was truly enduring, “being a florist, sometimes we are part of your best days and your worst days, so it is my goal to create a comfortable space for all walks of life.” It is quite prevalent that Chanel’s top priority is taking care of her customers and providing a friendly, hospitable service.
When you walk into this pristine space, you will not only notice the stunning floral arrangements and the exquisite atmosphere, you will no doubt take an interest in the merchandise available throughout the store. Chanel has diligently sought out many Canadian produced and locally crafted products to fill her shelves in a way which intentionally compliments her services. With a wide variety of unique products, one of Chanel’s favorite items that truly showcases her values in the floral industry, is a product called the Good Card; greeting cards made with wildflower seeds and paper made from biodegradable post-consumer waste. These cards can be given a second life by planting it in soil and growing flowers that are good for you, and good for the environment.
The character of Pristine Floral is a unique and contemporary addition to our local business community. Chanel has personally designed the modern aesthetic of her business from the instant visual of her shop down to the accented black & white tissue paper wrapping each order. As Chanel believes the florals should be the center of attention in an arrangement, she composes each bouquet with an ever-expanding design style of unique flowers in a colorless vase, to ensure the florals remain the focal point.
As customer service is held to the highest standard, floral arrangements of any size are available by local pick up or by delivery service. Not only does Pristine Floral have a large, elegantly designed retail space, but their online store is just as welcoming and convenient, along with their consistent and interactive presence on social media.
The choice of location for Pristine Floral was heavily influenced by availability. Chanel knew pretty early on that she would want a space that has adequate foot traffic and is located in the downtown core. Adding to the importance of accessibility, ensuring suitable parking space is available was also a key factor in choosing her store front location.
When each customer walks through the door of this zen-like atmosphere, not only will they experience the comfortability, but if they are lucky, they may also encounter the greetings of three young girls running the shop floors! Chanel prides herself on establishing this family run business in hopes to one day pass along her passion in floral design to her daughters.

Not only does Chanel have the enjoyment of operating together with her family in a professional setting, but she also has the pleasure of working alongside her long-time best friend Ashley. Coming up with a name to reflect the integrity of the business was no easy task for Chanel. She spent many long days and evenings researching the perfect fit to represent her vision. Once she finally came across Pristine Floral, the name effortlessly flowed with the aspirations in her mind. The term Pristine reflects on cleanliness, purity, and a general feeling of fresh air, which couldn’t have complimented Chanel’s vision more clearly. As she crafted the perfect logo to represent her new endeavor, she was sure to include a sentimental piece; the 3 flowers in bloom which represent her three lovely daughters.
Pristine Floral is committed to providing a personable and memorable experience for each one of its customers. Chanel’s main indicator of accomplishment within her business is through customer satisfaction. Not only on the feedback that she receives on a regular basis, but also in the new customers, repeat customers, employee satisfaction and the welcoming nature of the community. Obviously, the revenue made is a solid way to measure success within the business, however, the consumer gratification is her most important evaluation of prosperity.
Becoming a business owner of a floral shop has always been a blossoming dream of Chanel’s. While she contemplated the idea for some time, she recognized the need for a second floral shop in the community. Not only does this business allow for her to showcase her love for flowers, but she has also struck a comforting balance between being a young mother and operating a small business. The flexibility in creating her own schedule, working long hours, and bringing her children to work with her has made it that much easier to truly enjoy the work that she does everyday. In describing her passion for her business, Chanel quoted a famous saying by Marc Anthony, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
