Rumble and Tumble Kids Playroom is a new family operated business that opened its doors in February of this year at 10148 104 Street after many long months of ambitious renovations. We are pleased to welcome Rumble and Tumble Kids Playroom as an innovative enhancement to our local business community.
Rumble and Tumble Kids Playroom is an indoor recreation facility geared towards children 0-6 years in age, although that’s not to say some older siblings couldn’t join in on the imaginative play! Not only is this space available daily for walk-in playtime, but the facility also accommodates birthday parties, private events, school programs and even a caregiver drop-in playgroup.
Occupying a space in what used to be a vacant church, business owner Moriah Hickey spent much dedicated time preparing the facility and ensuring it met her standards prior to showcasing her new establishment. The main deciding factors in choosing her location were availability, accommodable size, affordability and being within close proximity of the downtown core.
Moriah made the entrepreneurial decision to provide a local indoor play place for the community after years of seeing a gap in amenities available for young children in the area. Having the background in childhood development herself, she understood the need for space, not only for young children to play, but for parents to congregate and socialize as well.
What sets Rumble and Tumble Kids Playroom apart from other indoor play place facilities is quite apparent as soon as you step foot into this cozy space. As this establishment has been designed to cater to a younger age group of children, the focus remains on encouraging imaginative play and the development of fine motor skills. The main concept was to integrate a preschool setting into a facility enjoyable for both child and parent. Moriah lit up as she described her emotional take aways from the job, “The parental bonding that takes place here is something special and rewarding to witness. That to me is what success in this business looks like.”
Seeing this playroom being utilized on a daily basis is the ultimate objective of accomplishment in this business. For Moriah, financial reward comes second to the experience that is being provided to the young families in the community.
Finding the right name for this unique space was no easy task. Moriah and her family spent a fair amount of time brainstorming the perfect fit. As they put the name on the backburner and continued on with the renovations, there was an afternoon that all of their children were chaotically running through the building. As any parent can relate, completing large projects with an enthusiastic group of children running through the halls can prove to be a challenging endeavor. That’s when Moriah told the children, “You know, you can’t be rumbling and tumbling all over this place,” to which the kids responded, “OH YES WE CAN! IT’S A PLAYPLACE!” This interaction immediately sparked Mariah’s entrepreneurial spirit and she knew right then and there, the perfect name had just been revealed.
Future goals for Rumble and Tumble Playroom are to expand into a more spacious building to allow for an increase in activity centers and play structures. Ideally, Moriah would like to expand to include jungle gym apparatuses that can accommodate the older age group as well as more inclusive accessibility to accommodate families and children of all needs.
Although expansion is a high priority for Moriah, her main focus at the moment is being able to provide her space to all families, despite any financial constraints. It is important to her that she gets to a point where she can offer fully funded, free days of play at her establishment, to ensure all of the community can participate in the enjoyment her playroom has to offer. While Moriah has been working hard to create partnerships and sponsorships, the task at hand has not been an easy one. However, this is where the local community can help!
Rumble and Tumble Playroom is hosting a fundraising garage sale in line with the Westlock Town Wide Garage Sale on June 22, 2024. Proceeds from the garage sale will go towards offering free days of play to the community! Rumble and Tumble Playroom is always graciously accepting donations from individuals and local businesses interested in sponsoring free days of play.
