As part of the Town's Housing Action Plan, the Town of Westlock will be developing an Area Structure Plan for the undeveloped areas of the Aspendale Neighbourhood. This will prepares those lands for future development to ensure the Town retains a sufficient supply of development-ready land while advocating for a variety of housing types to meet broader community needs. The Town has retained the services of Bearisto & Associates Engineering (BASE) to create the ASP in close consultation with Town Administration, Council, landowners, and other important parties such as provincial agencies.
The project is expected to be completed by late 2025 as per the timeline below. The project team is currently undertaking Administrative Engagement which consists of workshops and meetings with Town Administration and external agencies to gather background information and preliminary input into the plan.
The first opportunity for public engagement on initial concepts for the area is anticipated to occur in April 2025, with more details on how to get involved to be announced closer to that date.
What is an Area Structure Plan (ASP)?
An Area Structure Plan (ASP) is a statutory plan prepared pursuant to the Municipal Government Act that provides a framework for more detailed subdivision and development, including future land use patterns, transportation, utility networks, and the sequence of development in new areas of a municipality.
An ASP is required to be in place and approved by Council prior to the application for future subdivision or development of greenfield (ie. vacant or undeveloped) lands.
Stay tuned for future engagement opportunities.
