The Flower Barn is a well-established business operating at 10016 107 Street in the Town for nearly 40 years! We are pleased to feature this unique hidden gem for this month’s Business Spotlight Series in acknowledgment of their consistent and compassionate presence within the local business community.
The Flower Barn offers a stunning selection of customized floral arrangements featuring both fresh and permanent botanicals for any occasion, as well as a wide variety of unique and charming giftware. The Flower Barn is newly owned and operated by a driven, energetic mother-daughter team, Shauna Synnett and Sarah Dubrule. Shauna and Sarah graciously took over the business last year, from long-time friend and college, Rose Sutherland. Not only did they acquire a successful business along with all of the existing stock, they also were able to keep a long-time employee, Dawn, in which much knowledge and expertise continues to be passed down to Shauna and Sarah.
The choice to become business owner’s seemed like a straight forward decision that Shauna and Sarah were ready to take on after years of observing the effort and empathy that Rose and Dawn had whole-heartedly put into the company. Being able to witness, first-hand, the impact they made on local customers, inspired the mother-daughter duo to seek that experience for themselves. Both ladies felt it was the perfect time in their lives to challenge themselves, learn new skills and embrace the freedom and personal growth that comes with being their own bosses.
Placing a high importance on providing quality products and exceptional customer satisfaction is an important goal for the business. Sarah spends much of her time sourcing out Canadian and locally made products to fill her store. Although, their true strength lies in their welcoming customer service and commitment to go the extra mile for each customer that visit their shop. The Flower Barn offers personalization for all of their creations, ensuring that each item reflects the customers individual preferences.
When asked how they measure success within their business, they responded not only with feedback from the community but employee morale as well. Shauna and Sarah take pride in the teamwork and creativity that they continue to instill into the company. As a mother-daughter operation, a family-like work environment is of the upmost importance in providing a comfortable, respectful and fun workplace setting. “When our staff is happy and healthy, it positively impacts the work we deliver to the community, as a result, our customers consistently receive nothing short of the best service.” “We feel we’ve done a good job when people return to our store over and over again.”
Moving forward, Shauna and Sarah aim to further their floral education and broaden their product selection by adding more local vendors to their shop. One exciting idea these ladies have been playing with is potentially expanding their space to be able to accommodate and host unique floral and creative classes as well.
